Bringing Books to Life
The program is tilted “Bringing Books to Life Literary Series”. This initiative gives children the opportunity to achieve their fullest potential by using high-quality, research-based practice that is culturally competent and sensitive to promote and strengthen the family structure. The overall goal of the program is to promote reading and literacy. The organization secures a community space. The space is then transformed using three-dimensional props and character decor to give the participants the feel that they have stepped into the themed book. Within the space, attendees will participate in activities taken directly from the book. The activities may be modified to give a modern twist and relevance. The goal is to improve reading comprehension among readers.
Experts are asked to come and run workshops to teach parents innovative approaches to parent education and parent-child activities. The objectives of the workshops, is for adults to share and discover the many ways they can use conversation, books, and simple activities to spark their children’s desire to learn and help them develop a love of reading. Vendors booths are also setup with various community resources for parents who may not know these resources exist otherwise.
Organizations that advocate for family literacy and early childhood programs across Miami-Dade County also have the opportunity to network and learn from one another. The series will include “Alice in Wonderland” and “Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss” as well as many others.
The events will run on Saturdays from 11am to 4pm. Activities are scheduled in time slots of one hour increments. See our Calendar and Events page for the next “Bringing Books to Life”.
